[V] features Florence and the Machine as this month's Breakout Artist. Originating from London, England, this up-and-coming alternative rock band is the recording name for 23-year-old singer-songwriter Florence Welch and her backing band.
Their debut album, Lungs, was released in July, 2009, peaking at number 2 in the UK charts and number 13 in Europe. The UK's best-selling debut of the year, the album features the punchy lead single, "Kiss with a Fist", which was also featured in the soundtrack of the film, Jennifer's Body.
In 2009, Welch and her band toured extensively, performing at major festivals like Glastonbury, Electric Picnic and T in the Park. In the same year, she collected the Critics' Choice Award at the Brit Awards. With major critics singing her praises, the talented Welch and her band is prepared to invade the international airwaves with their own brand of English pop eccentrics.
